Gay = Not Male?

Odd comment found in notes taken from a Glenn Reynolds speech at BlogNashville:

(On bloggers being male, white, and middle-aged, like the crowd at BlogNashville.) "This is a perennial topic. It’s not true if you step out of political bloggers and tech bloggers. Livejournal is heavily female but it’s personal. There’s a huge substratum of gay blogs. If it’s true there are fewer women bloggers it’s a legacy of it starting with tech geeks who couldn’t get dates. It’s something that’s trailing away." [emphasis added]

I've seen this phrasing before. It's as though homosexual men somehow do not count as men. Whatever you think of homosexuality, this common language usage is definitionally inaccurate.

The gay men that I've known are different, but men none the less. Let's address them as such.

John,

I didn't even notice this post when I read through your blog the other day. But I'm glad I saw it. Thank you for saying what you said.

Homophobia is just as sinful as homosexuality and ten times more dangerous. No person, no matter their life style, should be denied their basic dignity as men and women made in God's likeness.
