The Simpsons for Sermons
Last night, Lisa Simpson asked her mother if God would answer her prayers. Marge responded affirmatively "Sometimes, if you pray really really hard over something, God cuts you a break. Remember, our prayers pay his salary!"
The Simpsons is filled with little bits of (mis)wisdom like this about God and the Christian faith. You know what Fox Network should do? Put all of these short clips together on one DVD and sell them to pastors to use as illustrations during sermons.

THAT would be a great idea :)
my family (except me) love the Simpsons. I don't watch tv except the dectective story on Sat night - it's my time with our teenage daughter. supper, sauna, then 1 hr tv with popcorn. Right now it's Mr Monk series and it's so funny. Clever murder plots too :)
there is the 'gospel according to the simpsons'.. a friend of mine actually did a 6 week bible study based around the simpsons, in the same format as some of the other tv, series which was very well received. i think it has much to do with the falability of the family that you could actually draw quite a bit from.
"Gospel According To The Simpsons" is definitely worth reading. It's funny how at one point the show was bashed by some religious conservatives when in fact it puts a lot of emphasis on traditional family values, faith, fidelity, honesty, etc. How many other tv sit coms show religion playing as important a role as "The Simpson" does? Sure, they tease, they point out some hypocrisy now and then, but faith-- "religion," even-- is always portrayed in the end as a good thing.
Ditto on "The Gospel According to the Simpsons." We used it in our senior high Sunday School class with good response. The teacher used DVD's of old episodes as illustrations. It would be good to have a collection.
I remember back in grad school, one prof asked what show gave the most accurate description of how the world sees Christianity. Yup, the Simpsons.
We stopped watching it when the kids started wanting to watch it too. Maybe now that the boys are older they can appreciate it a bit more.
