By the way...

Pat Robertson is a total jackass. And it's important that Christians in general and conservative Christians in particular completely disavow him. You are judged by the company that you keep, and I have a strong desire not to be considered in his company.

John, I've often wondered how people like Robertson or even Falwell get the designation as spokespeople. If maybe all it takes is a big mouth and ego because these guys don't sound like anybody who idmire spiritually.

Bob, I think that it's because they "give good quote" in media jargon. They reliably produce soundbites that are controversial.

That, and they constantly say that they are spokesmen. All the freakin' time.

I couldn't agree more. Faithful Christians really need to claim a stronger, more prophetic voice especially regarding hacks and charlatans who claim to be Christians.

As long as they have sponsors, they will always have something to say. Sadly, there are far too many angry, fundamentalist Christians out there who believe they've been taking it in the shorts for too long. They're mad as h*ll and are not going to take it anymore.

That PLUS it feels good to blame someone else for our problems, whatever we think those problems might be. Sort of like the Pharisees who believed that the Romans were the real problem.
