Guess who said this:
"So you believe the ruling does impact the local church?
Definitely. I think already there are United Methodists who have contacted their pastors to say they think someone is gay or lesbian, and that they should be removed from membership."
Then said this:
"Membership is the formal process of joining a church and pledging that you will support and uphold the church. There is a distinction between that and just attending the worship services."
I don't remember 1032 being about kicking out existing members, but I suppose it may be possible in light of the ruling. I doubt that would be likely. Amazing what distortions rainbow colored glasses produce. Lots of fear and paranoia. Consider this:
"Yes, it is. It has a far more reaching impact. If we don’t address what the Judicial Council has done, we will be heading down the wrong road – we will be on the road down to the take-over of our denomination similar to that of the Southern Baptist Convention 30 years ago."
Obviously there are alien invaders within the Methodist Church intent on taking it over. Isn't it terrible how all the old gay and lesbian Baptist were kicked out thirty years ago?
Three thoughts:
First - Jim Winkler said, "Those who profess Christ and who pledge to uphold the UMC with their services, givings, talents and time, and who pledge to do good and resist evil, are eligible to join the UMC. We have not disqualified people who are guilty of this or that sin."
I don't have a copy of the membership vows, but isn't there something in there about repenting of your sins? And, does it really say we are to "do good and resist evil"?
Second - What does the statement about the rich man and the camel and the eye of the needle have to do with anything?
And third - he also said, "we will be on the road down to the take-over of our denomination similar to that of the Southern Baptist Convention 30 years ago."
As I remember, the conservatives took back their church! In that case - YEA!!!!!!!!!
