United Methodist Elected President of Liberia

Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has been elected President of Liberia. She's the first female African head of state in modern times.

Dean Snyder covered this story in July.

Hmm, it seems the vote is not without controversy:

Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf claims victory, calls on Weah to concede
Weah files formal complaint
Open letter to George Weah

I have to admit that I don't know much about "King" Weah's politics. All I know is that he has done what few in his position ever think to do: give back to his own. I know he has long fought to better the position of his country and his people, and I definitely admire that. I just hope this doesn't turn into some sort of unrest or even worse--civil war.

An absolute legend of a player in his prime, and he's Methodist, too!
