The Future of the MBWR

Shane Raynor writes that the Methodist Blogroll will soon include 200 hundred members. That makes the Methodist Blogs Weekly Roundup rather daunting. I love doing this ministry, but the ever-growing Methoblogroll has made me put restrictions on the MBWR, such as the 4-paragraph rule.

Here are a few ideas floating through my head, and I'd like to know what you think of them:

1. I could institute a restriction for the MBWR that would require that participants blogroll at least 10 Methoblogroll members, thereby giving priority to people who are active in the Methoblogging community.

2. Assemble volunteers who would divide up the Methoblogroll and jointly compose the MBWR.

3. Catapults!

What do you think? Any ideas?

John,

I've come to look forward to your Monday round-ups, but I guess I always somehow knew it might become a burden to you. I'm game for whatever you think may work best.

Or catapults. Either way.

is there a way to move you to a site that could roll folks into an aggregator? i've never looked into how that functions, it could be a possibility. could people submit their post links (although i generally just like to see the john flair to posts)? i like the peeps that support the mbr, that's big to me. should a limit be put onto church issues? that's not as much fun, but it is the uniting factor.

John,

Like Michael, I've come to look forward to the Monday roundups because they've led me to experience some blogs that I wouldn't have found otherwise...and let's face it, you have a unique way of summarizing the blogs.

I wish I had a solution, but I'm still so new to the blogging experiece that I'm still trying to figure out all of the options that might be available.

Catapults are a good idea too...until I find myself being placed on one your bishopness.

I'm leaning toward catapults. If that doesn't help, then maybe you could try running the MBWR like the various "carnivals" in the blogosphere. Have the members send you a link each week if they have a post they want to include. For that matter, you could have people send you just the links (no commentary), and you could do your own writeup without having to look at every site on the list if half of them don't have anything new or if they don't care to participate.

But my first choice is still catapults.

Or we could simply split into two denominations. I would hate to see the church split over theological issues, but if the reason is keeping the blogroll smaller, I don't see a problem.

I think having people email you their links and a brief sentence about the topic makes the most sense.

And, on a totally separate note, I'm not sure if you've seen this but a college friend posted a link to this on his blog and it made me think of you.

For both you and Shane, I think the MBR and MBWR should be for only those people who include the entire blogroll on thier site. I have gone to a couple blogs that didn't list the entire Methodist Blogroll, but thier blog was include in the roll.

This might help some.

The UMC is only one denomination??? ;)

I vote catapaults.

John - I totally appreciate the MBWR, and like others here, think you certainly add your unique flair that makes your writing in general the must-read that it is for all of us! So I will gladly offer to help, but not sure I can match your wit :). That said, I don't know about people emailing you links. Too limiting. How about just rotating - Blogs A-H, I-O, P-Z or something?

I participated in a few communities that allowed for multiple authors.

The idea would be that the site would finction as a common space where we all can post those things that we think would be most appropriate for the MBWR. This would allow for community comments and subsequent discussion.

It would make the MBWR less of a roundup and more of a e-community.

I am game for helpign set it up - and even for having it on my webspace. Let me know.

When you become bishop you can just assign someone to write it for you, right?

Thanks for the ideas. I'll bear them all in mind as I contemplate what to do when the MBWR grows too large in its current format.

John,

you know this "business" better than anyone else. So your judgement should be the best.

If you decide to go the volunteer route, I'd help. (But for not more than about a sixth of the list.)

Blessings,
Gerry
