Happy Beer Day!

Yesterday was Beer Day, a national holiday in Iceland celebrating the legalization of that beverage in 1989.

Asbury doesn't allow students to drink, nor can I tolerate the taste of the stuff, so I shan't celebrate. But if you can handle the swill, toss back a Viking and cheer.

Yeah, the good old "ethos statement" where we Asburians deny ourselves an ice cold beer, but don't bother to discourage rampant materialism and rabid patriotism (both far greater threats to our public witness than moderate drinking, IMNSHO.)

(sigh)

Well, Iceland, I hope you had a good time.

What about sacramental wine? It's only used to bless things...

Wait a minute! There's things here! There's rocks, there's trees, there's birds, there's schkavirrels. Come on, we'll bless them all until we get vashnukad!

I don't know how the ethos statement is lived out at Wilmore. There's no residential campus here, so I don't think that it's an issue.

Iceland is a wholly Lutheran nation, so beer is used in place of sacramental wine.

what other' rules' does Asbury have. I checked the site and they seem not to be there ...

Finland is also predominantly Luteran and a lot of alchohol is drunk. I don't think that's the connection though ... more like the long dark nights that go on and on and on

1. Thou shalt not drink.
2. Thou shalt not smoke.
3. Thou shalt not question Asbury.
