Zombie-Fighting Tip of the Day

Zombies can't swim, but they also don't need to breathe air. You, however, do. So bodies of water may not be as effective barriers as you might hope. Plan accordingly.

That does it. I'm cancelling my vacation to Orlando!

Would a zombie simply walk across the bottom of a lake or river?

Yes. They have no air, and therefore no natural bouyancy. Although scientists are not sure why, zombies are not affected by water pressure levels that would crush a human being. Zombies are known to inhabit the ocean floor and can only be removed by specially-trained, specially-equipped deep sea divers.

Zombies are, however, as impacted by currents as we are. So a fast-moving river will at least disrupt the movement of a zombie mob pursuing you.

Please note however that zombies, while not carrying with them the more complex thoughts and emotions they had during their human life, do retain some of the innate, instinctive thoughts and emotions that they once had. So while a zombie may be physically able to walk across the bottom of the lake, you may be able to buy yourself a little time by jumping into the lake, getting away while instinctive fear of drowning causes the zombie to hesitate at the water's edge.

Unless, of course, you're dealing with a really experienced zombie leader who has figured this stuff out. Then, as has been previously mentioned, you really should head to Wal-Mart, where a wide selection of dry foods, power tools, and sports gear will keep you going for quite some time.

I have never seen a zombie show any fear or hesitation to attack.

John,

What do you consider the best Zombie movie?

I liked the mid 80's "Return of the Living Dead" although it is not nearly as graphic as the more modern films like "Dawn of the Dead".

Probably 28 Days.

World War Z has been optioned as a movie, so that will probably be good, if not better.

Okay, that does it. I'm scared. I live just east of Orlando. Do we have zombies out here? Should I be afraid of what might be in that lake near my house, or of what may be lurking in those trees over there? Should I give up my after-dark walks?

I have always said that I wouldn't go into a Walmart Supercenter if my life depended on it. Maybe I need to rethink that statement.
