Central Texas Annual Conference Sued by Church Members

From the Fort Worth Star-Telegram:

ARLINGTON - A south Arlington congregation whose building was set to go on the auction block is suing the Central Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church, claiming that the conference's actions helped doom its chances to pay back a $1 million loan.

A foreclosure sale of Grace United Methodist Church at 3806 Curry Road had been set for Tuesday. It was cancelled after County Court at Law Judge R. Brent Keis issued a temporary restraining order Monday. The order prevents the Central Texas Methodist Foundation from selling the church before a Nov. 17 hearing on whether the sale should be delayed.

A very creative move by the congregation. The suit says that ineffective clergy appointed by the Conference killed the congregation making it unable to pay the Foundation loan.
