I'd be more concerned that the congregation didn't know their Pastor had a criminal history.
Our church has always served the gritty inner-city community. We were founded by a reformed riverboat gambler and murderer who went straight. In our early days (~1900), they say that the deacons carried pistols to keep folk honest during offering collection time...
No pistols required today.
