Pop Art Blogging: Roy Lichtenstein

Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997) was an American Pop artist and teacher. Born and raised in New York City, he attended the Art Students League of New York and Ohio State University. Although most of his life's work was devoted to Abstract expressionism, he is best known for producing works celebrating the style of American comic books. His works may appear machine made, but each is handcrafted, brushstroke by brushstroke. Of his subject matter, Lichtenstein wrote "I'd rather use the word dealing with than parody. I am sure there are certain aspects of irony, but I get really involved in making the paintings when I am working on them, and I think just to make parodies or to be ironic about something in the past is much too much of a joke for that to carry your work as a work of art."

Gee...as I scrolled down through this post, I thought I heard (saw) someone yelling at me. Just a tad unsettling.

Anything to get a comment on an artblogging post. Whatever it takes.
