Memorable But Obscure Movie Quotes

Joe Carter has a list of memorable quotations from obscure movies.

It's a good list. One that comes to mind from my memory is from that underrated fantasy movie Krull. Bandit leader Torquil is advised to go on a dangerous adventure. His reward? He'll be famous.

Torquil: Fame? It's an empty purse. Count it, go broke. Eat it, go hungry. Seek it and go mad.

Indeed. What movie quotes are most memorable for you?

Our conversations tend to be peppered with Ghostbusters references.

i loved krull.. i think the movie made great strides in cyclops acceptance, ground breaking.

except for that shrill noise the bad guys made when they were killed, that got annoying, it was awesome.

From The Mission, with Jeremy Irons and Rob't Deniro, in which a Catholic bishop (Altamirano), after some deliberation, cooperates in the killing and enslavement of Indian slaves in South America:

Hontar: We must work in the world, your eminence. The world is thus.

Altamirano: No, SeƱor Hontar. Thus have we made the world... thus have I made it.

=====

Altamirano: Tell them they must leave the missions. They must submit to the will of God.

Gabriel: They say it was the will of God that they came out of the jungle and built the mission. They don't understand why God has changed his mind.

======
Cabeza: I cannot challenge him. His cloth protects him.

Mendoza: My cloth protects you.

======
Gabriel: If might is right, then love has no place in the world. It may be so, it may be so. But I don't have the strength to live in a world like that, Rodrigo.

From the book and movie, A River Runs Through It (an extremely quotable movie):

My father was very sure about certain matters pertaining to the universe. To him, all good things - trout as well as eternal salvation - come by grace and grace comes by art and art does not come easy.

======
Painted on one side of our Sunday school wall were the words, God Is Love. We always assumed that these three words were spoken directly to the four of us in our family and had no reference to the world outside, which my brother and I soon discovered was full of bastards, the number increasing rapidly the farther one gets from Missoula, Montana.

=====
I said, "I know he doesn't like to fish. He just likes to tell women he likes to fish. It does something for him and the women. And for the fish too," I added. "It makes them all feel better."

=====
Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs.

I am haunted by waters.

My favorite, recent quote is from Serenity. It is funnier when you are actually watching it, but here it is.

Setup: Flying in space in a huge battle. Captin comes up and a piece of debris hit ship:

Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: What the hell?
Hoban 'Wash' Washburn: It's okay, I'm a leaf on the wind!
Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: What does that mean?

Dan, you left out my favorite quote from that movie: They were Methodists, a denomination my father referred to as Baptists who could read.

I use a quote from Raiders of the Lost Ark at least once a week.

At the end of the movie, the Ark is placed in a wooden crate and placed in an enormous warehouse.

[Discussing the fate of the Ark]
Maj. Eaton: We have top men working on it now.
Indiana: Who?
Maj. Eaton: Top... men.

Anytime I am asked the status of anything at work I find myself answering, "We have Top Men are working on it." I use it more so if I really don't have clue what the status is. It has almost become a trademark of mine.

Dan,

River Runs Through it, along with Legend of the Fall, are my wife's favorite movies, and over time, I have grown to really like them too. Good stuff all around.

Three quotes come to mind that are repeated very often in our family.

Two are from the Star Wars movies.

Said by a different character in each of the 6 movies: "I have a bad feeling about this."

Said by both Han Solo and Lando in episode V (and repeated by my hubby as he walked our daughter down the aisle on her wedding day): "It's not my fault!"

Finally, not from a movie, but from the SciFi TV series, Eureka, Jack Carter repeats in every episode: "Yeah, that can't be good."

It may be silly, but we break out laughing every time.

Best In Show:

"Let me ask you something, how much do you think I can deadlift."

"Don't spit on me!"

If you get tired, pull over. If you get hungy, eat something."

Waiting for Guffman:

"I buy all my wife's clothes."

I could go on. But I won't.
