Leviticus 6:24-26:
Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, "Speak to Aaron and to his sons, saying, 'This is the law of the sin offering: in the place where the burnt offering is slain the sin offering shall be slain before the LORD; it is most holy. The priest who offers it for sin shall eat it. It shall be eaten in a holy place, in the court of the tent of meeting."
One of the curious things I've noticed whilst reading the Pentateuch is that it is in the financial best interests of the Levites for people to sin.

Technically isn't it in the best interests of the Levites for the Jews to make offerings of repentance for their sins?
They don't have to encourage people to sin, because they'll do that anyway. They just have to encourage people to make extravagant sin offerings to redeem them.
There's all manner of oddities in those laws. Some really cool and meaningful, some funny and some horrifying.
My kids in Sunday School (high school) loved the verse about "looking at a neighbor's ass..."
But, of course...
What has your inductive work unearthed in terms of the significance and implications of this observation?

Well, this way you could tell how sinful the people were by how fat the Levites became.
I guess it would be like a Ref. who has a side bet on the game. Anything even close gets called...just to be on the safe side!
A really shrewd priest could re-invest some of his earnings in sin-promoting industries, thereby ensuring himself of a customer base.
Well, there should be some financial rewards to Levites since OT Law discourages them from running a stable of Temple prostitutes.
