I've met a lot of people who don't prepare for zombie attacks because they think that they can count on governments to rescue them during disasters. Two words, folks: Hurricane Katrina.
The response of the Texas Department of Transportation should remind us of something: governments aren't primarily interested in making you safe. Governments are interested in controlling you.
So you'd better look out for yourself.

I recently re-read Max Brooks's excellent book, "World War Z." It's an oral history of the most recent war against the zombies, containing fascinating interviews with a wide range of people involved, from the pharmaceutical executive who profited from Phalanx, the notorious fake vaccine against zombism, to veterans from the iconic Battle of Yonkers. I can't recommend it highly enough as a resource for learning from the mistakes of the past while being inspired by the heroes of that war- everyone should read this book, so as to be better prepared to fight off the zombie menace in the future.
World War Z is truly an outstanding novel -- even for those disinterested in zombies. There's a movie version in production now.
It could be worse. You could be in Indiana:

You'd better clear up Reverend Mommy's mistaken assumption: she was blaming this on _you_.
(Blaming or crediting; I couldn't tell which.)
Crediting. It was a brilliant move.
I admit to nothing.
John, I must admit that when I saw this news story on tv, I immediately thought of you.... especially since I know how concerned you are that others are aware of and protected from zombie attacks...
