Nope they aren't right. Shooting things will likely take up a very small part of post-apocalyptic life. The majority of it will be scrounging for shelter, potable water, and food. In that order.
A small, but very important part.
I think that in education you have to link onto anything that kids show an interest in. They're far more likely to be interested in drills for tossing grenades than distilling water. And that's better than nothing.
