Heresy!

I have seen the new Star Trek movie. It was a decent action film, but a bad Trek movie.

I realize and accept that the franchise must be re-invented in order to have new life. Still, it saddens this Trekkie's heart to see so many needless discontinuities. Especially the horrific one at the end of the film.

Still, the miniskirts were a nice touch.

This Onion news story is quite accurate:

Trekkies Bash New Star Trek Film As 'Fun, Watchable'

Except the part about the plot making sense. It was never really clear what the problem was, or the solution to it. But by that point, I confess, the pain had become some overwhelming that it was hard for me to concentrate.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I saw this movie on opening night, and I thought it was horrible. There were some neat things in it, sure. There were decent points. But I am a Star Trek fan, and this was so... offensive. Wrong. Awful.

Everyone else I know has loved it, and most have blasted me for refusing to just relax and enjoy it. But it's not as if I WANTED to hate it. I wanted to love it. I spent twenty bucks thinking this was going to be great... and it so very truly was not even remotely great.

Well, at least this movie will help root out the heretics who have infiltrated the Trekkie ranks.

John,
I too wished that they did not change as much as they did. They could have kept some of the same sound and special effects.

I personally like some of the other things J. J. Abrams did with the movie, like embracing more of Spock's humanity.

Is this different, OH YEA!!!! Don't forget, they did rebut the series by changing the timeline. When they did this, everything is free game because history is being rewritten.

It has Kirk, Uhura and Chekov as contemporaries at the Academy. That's a lot more than just a timeline change.
