10 Awesomest Swords in Cinema

sword

Nerd Bastards lists what it considers to be the ten greatest swords in film, including the claymore from Braveheart and the Hattori Hanzo from Kill Bill. I might add Excalibur from the 1981 movie Excalibur, but maybe that's just because I love the movie.

What would you add to the list?

Love, Excalibur, too.

The samurai master's sword from the Tom Cruise in Japan movie. (See my knowledge on display.)

Rob Roy's sword because of the great fight at the end of the movie.

Zorro's sword.

So many. So many.

I keep on telling my wife that we need a sword, but she won't listen to me.

Most of the swords in the Lord of the Rings movies are just excellent. The idea of a leaf-bladed long sword was not just beautiful, but also revolutionary.

For a more obscure movie, Frank Langella had this evil looking saw-toothed saber in Cutthroat Island. I consider it one of the greatest villain swords on film.

For some reason I can't see the list at work, so I'm not sure what else is on it.

How 'bout the sword for the six-fingered man in Princess Bride?

It's actually way too pretty by my tastes, but since the Dread Pirate Roberts thought he'd never seen its equal, it'd be worth a mention.

How about Zorro, the Gay Blade's sword? Or was that just a metaphor?

Although I'm tempted to Google Dan Trabue's Zorro, The Gay Blade's Sword, I'm afraid of what might turn up.

What? No one has said Light Sabre yet???

My pick is Wesley Snipes' sword in "Blade".

The Light Saber is on the list, but I don't think that it qualified as a real sword. If it ain't metal, it ain't a sword.

I am betraying my personal bias here, but my vote goes for the mek'leth and bat'leth of Worf.

Btw, thanks for this article.
