No, it's not just as big as your head. Paul Carson made one out of welded sheet metal that's so big that it will barely fit in the back of a pickup truck.

I'm with the guy who was asking, in the last minute of the film why a 12 sided?
In D&D, the Barbarian class uses a 12 sided to generate hit points every level, and it is used to roll damage for (I think) a great sword.
But, unless you are playing a barbarian with a great sword, then there is no real use for the thing.
Maybe that is why he decided to make such a huge metal version. For sure, you're not going to be rolling that around during your weekly gaming session.
As the other guy said, they're useful in Rolemaster.
