What's Your Sci Fi Blind Spot?

Mark Bernardin asks:
Never seen an episode of Star Trek? Never read any Philip K. Dick? What's the one hallowed piece of the science fiction firmament you've never seen or heard or read? Don't be embarrassed; we've all got one. At least.

Well, I guess that I'll get the confessional rolling: I've never seen a single episode of Battlestar Galactica. Or even a clip. By that I mean the new version. And I've only seen a few episodes of the classic series, and not since I was eight years old.

There. Now it's your turn.

I have no science fiction blind spots. None at all. Or maybe I just don't know what I'm missing... So, I'm subscribing to these comments so maybe I'll learn about some of what I've missed.

I haven't played many SciFi video games so I suppose I don't get related in-jokes.

I've only seen one of the Star Wars movies. And I never saw Back to the Future 2 or 3.

Likewise, I've never seen one of the new Battlestar Galactica shows, and I've never watched Firefly.

I have seen Serenity, though. Once in the theatre and once on Netflix.

I deliberately try to keep Star Trek in my blindspot, so I'm not sure if that counts.

I saw the original Star Wars on opening night and never saw any of the rest.

D&S, have you seen Lexx?

Jeff, you need a more understanding boss.

Anastasia, which one was it? I hope not one of the prequels.

Le Bolide, I haven't seen Serenity, but I have seen all of Firefly. It's quite good, and I never thought that I would say that about a space western.

bob, that's great! It's like being a grognard, but with Star Wars.

It's in my blind spot. I can't see it. So how in the world do I answer the question? I've never seen Lexx, and maybe only one or two episodes of Farscape. Are they "hallowed"? I've read Dick, Heinlein, Herbert, Sturgeon, Schmidt, Tiptree, Le Guin, Bujold, Card, ... Who should I have read?

Exactly why I subscribed to this thread. I've never seen Lexx and didn't see it as a blind spot so much as a bullet dodged, but it seems to be available on hulu, so I'll check it out:
http://www.hulu.com/lexx

And, yes, Farscape is hallowed. In my little world, anyway.

Mine is the new version of BSG - all the others I haven't seem I haven't been interested in. But I know I'd enjoy BSG, I just haven't gotten around to it.

To own just the ordinary DVD series of the new BSG is around 450 dollars. I don't know how many cubits that is, but it's a lot to try and give as a gift, which annoys me because I'd love to loan it out, and spread that love. Frak.

My Blind Spot would be Ender's Game, and that whole thing. Anyone else ever subscribe to Starlog?

Oh, wrf3 brings up a good point with fiction. I really haven't read much short science fiction at all and that leaves a pretty gaping hole in my scifi education. Azimov, Ellison, and lot of other seminal authors published a lot of short fiction in the scifi magazines. I really haven't read any of it. Thankfully nobody makes trendy references to the content of Azimov's anymore.

Heh!

Well, I guess that Lexx isn't hallowed and of little cultural significance, so it shouldn't be considered a blind spot.

I watched the first several episodes of Farscape and didn't care for it.

I haven't read much in the way of science fiction -- a smattering of Heinlein and Asimov. Most of my reading is online, and blogs or articles.

You have to read Ellison. Find a copy of The Essential Ellison.
