Although I think that "geek" entails that the hobby lacks widespread social acceptance. So a person who knows a lot of sports statistics is not a geek of any kind.

Geek appears to be the chosen word. I have four times the posts using geek than I do using nerd.
So as geek culture continues to enter the mainstream will we no longer be geeks?
We will be geeks, but we will be masters of the heavens and the earth. Then we will find prom dates.
It is our destiny.
My kids and I play Magic. There were no prom dates involved.
