Blog Later, Rapture Now

I drove to Jacksonville and back today to meet with the District Committee on the Ordained Ministry. My psychs came back clear -- no Red Flags or Yellow Flags (insert jokes into comments section). I'm too exhausted to blog today. In the meantime, in his recent MBP, Mike Lamson said of the Rapture:

I think it is one of the most destructive theological concepts introduced to the church. It encourages people to have a "doom and gloom" view of the world and spend all of their life on this earth waiting for it to go to a "hell in a hand basket." I just don't see the Scriptures teaching us to be waiting for the pristine streets of gold, but to be participating in bringing the Kingdom of heaven here, with the hope and longing that all things will be restored in the end. Some people may already disagree with me, but it is a concept that's only been developed within the last 150-200 years.

This response garnered substantial praise in the comments. Elsewhere (hat tip), Ryan questions the authenticity of the doctrine of the Rapture, as well as the motives behind its popularity.

Also, a beautiful, but haunting photograph that we all should examine. Hat tip.

“I pray NOT that you would take them OUT of the world, but that you would keep them from the evil.”

Quote from Jesus (Yahshua) - John 17:15

Why in the world would Yahshua say something like the above quote, knowing that all His people would read it...then totally trash it in favor of a satanic invention called the rapture, that totally contradicts what He PRAYED for?

“I pray NOT that you would take them OUT of the world, but that you would keep them from the evil.”

Was Yahshua aware that there would be a great lie and deception in the endtimes, called a rapture, where the Christians would be taught the lie that we would be taken out of the world? Yes, He was quite aware, but His saying has been utterly trashed by the contemporary Christian church. Yet Yahweh has warned, "Because you have made lies your refuge, when the overflowing scourge comes, it shall overtake you!" (Isaiah 28:15)

I think the greatest concern in the church is the argument between rapture proponents and opponents. I feel we waste too much time fighting non-essential theological issues than uniting to spread the Word of God to the nations.

The essential truth embedded within both sides of the Rapture argument is the fact that Christ is going to return. The Bible encourages us to look for His imminent return and to work together as one to bring others to His throne with us.

Well said, Gregory. And I think this is exactly what "anonymous" stated as well. Some things are more important than others, and Jesus thought spreading the Good Word was a pretty good idea as well!
