Doctrinal Purity

Joel Thomas has some thoughts about schismatic movements within the UMC and Thomas C. Oden's views that theological liberals should face certain theological tests or be removed from positions of authority within the denomination.

I think I will have to read more of Oden's works. I have his 3 volume systematic theology, but I haven't read anything else he has written. He sounds like a UM that I can relate to. I like this guy!

I read some essay that he wrote last semester, but I can't remember a thing about it.

Systematic theology sounds too rigid to appeal to the "lost sheep". Sounds more like something pharasiac from which Jesus sought to free so many. As a somewhat conservative and traditional person, I'm not so sure I even want others to be bound by my thoughts although I do agree that there are some fundamentals that "leaders" must be willing to embrace.
