You know Pollock was a beloved student of Thomas Hart Benton for a long time -- Tom called him "Jack" but hated his paintings once he went to NY.But without Tom, Pollock's paintings would have zero shape or form; no rhythm. Tom was a Sousa or Beethovan to Pollock's Thelonious Monk.
I didn't know that about Pollock.
