One of the consequences of humor writing is one might often offend others without intention. And such is the case in recent days here at my blog. As an Asburian, I could claim 'diminished capacity', but instead I will take responsibility for my reckless words.
1. This morning I started a caption contest. Craig Moore left a comment. Being my usual slow-witted self, I didn't pay careful attention to it before replying. A quick reading let me to conclude that Craig was making some Beth Stroud-related comment and had clicked on the wrong thread. Seeking to move away from this issue which has caused just a smidgen of conflict in the Methoblogosphere, I left a pathetically witty comment that would suggest that he had chosen the incorrect thread for this statement. However, since he was writing a caption, and a fairly good one, I was instead very insulting and completely without cause.
2. On Monday, I wrote a short post about the Beth Stroud appeal and referred readers interesting in the gay perspective on this issue to go visit Cole Wakefield, James Spring, and John Wilks. The first two are, of course, openly gay. John Wilks is not and has been a Methoblogosphere leader and spokesman for the conservative point of view on this issue. So this was a small sort of joke on my part. What I did not know was that John has actually struggled with this problem in the past, and therefore my comment was in poor taste.
Gentlemen, I am very sorry for my poor judgment on these matters. I shall strive to be a more careful reader and thoughtful writer in the future.

John,
No apology needed. I got a good laugh out of it. I thought it was very funny.

As I said in my email, I misread your reply comment that my caption was the worst you had ever heard as a joke too. I apologise to you for misreading your comment.
