Holiday Cooking

For special Christmas cooking projects, I've prepared stollen and creme de menthe cheesecake. I plan on cooking scotch eggs next week.

What special recipes have you prepared this season?

the proverbs agree: stollen bread is sweet.

My mom always makes cinnamon rolls. They're basically just frozen bread dough with butter, cinnamon and sugar rolled and sliced with some icing. I think what I like about them is that they have more of a bread texture than a pastry.

Also, I have a "Pizza Dip" recipe that is excellent. You mix sour cream, cream cheese, pizza sauce, and a couple packages of shredded cheeses. You melt it all together and dip chunks of bread in for a tasty treat.

For Christmas dinner I made roast duck and broiled salmon served with a spicy clementine sauce, with sides of roasted candied root vegetables and aromatic seasoned brown rice. For dessert, my brother made a very dense Italian style chocolate cake.

Yeah, we ate fairly well... there were parsnips after all...

I made kedgeree around New Years. I had to substitute salmon for smoked haddock, and now I can't eat any fats or oils until spring, but it was pretty tasty. It also gave me something to write about in an otherwise slow period; I've been in kind of a blogging slump.
