Five Years

Never forget that there are those who wish to kill us and destroy our way of life.

...and that for some reason, Jesus commands us to love them, do good to them, and pray for those who persecute us. Matthew 5:43-48; Luke 6:27-35.

I try never to let this day pass without reading through those two passages and pondering what they mean for my life. I'm doing it again today.

And this ain't just theoretical for me---I live near and work in Washington, D.C.

So I reckon one thing it means is that we should remember that there are those who'd harm us, but that there is One greater than those, for the terrorists can harm the body but not the soul.

Never forget. Unfortunately, many are quick to politicize it.

Oh, and that's a dead link

Never forget. But please remember not to destroy our way of life in the process of dealing with them. We're stronger, smarter and better than these people, and we don't have to change a thing about what we believe is important in order to defeat them.

Within a day or so of 9/11, our pastor put "Jesus said to pray for our enemies" in the message board in front of the church. It made a lot of the neighbors mad. Me too, at first, but it was exactly the challenge we needed at that moment. Never let the world drive you from the Way of Jesus.
