The Good Stuff

My wife and I were talking last night about the music of our youth. It's time for a flashback to old days when they really knew how to make music:

Foolish Games by Jewel

Stay by Lisa Loeb

One Headlight by the Wallflowers

Crash Into Me by the Dave Matthews Band

As I Lay Me Down by Sophie Hawkins [embed unavailable]

The Freshmen by Verve Pipe [a fanvid, not original video]

Groove Is In The Heart by Dee Lite

Every one of those songs brings back memories. That wasn't exactly my style, but those are good songs. I sometimes irritate people by going on and on about how much better music was in the early and mid nineties. You could turn on the radio and hear something that actually had feeling, that didn't feel like it came out of a can.

funny...that's the music of my youth too. Throw in some Smashing Pumpkins, Metallica, Matchbox 20, and ALOT MORE DAVE MATTHEWS BAND.

Ditto Will.

Gee. I did NOT need a reminder today of just how old I'm getting...thanks a heap, John.

Um, no. The really good music is all from the 1970's, the days of my youth (smiles smugly).

Really, though, I think that for all of us the best music is what we enjoyed when we were young, or whatever else was the happiest time for us. Gonna be weird, in a few years, to walk down the halls in nursing homes and hear Rolling Stones coming from the residents' radios.

Fine songs, all of them, but the fact that you identify them as songs of your youth makes me feel about 107.

Yes, it's like music peaked in the 1990s and has never been the same.

Ah, Lilith Fair -- that was the greatest era of music in our time.
