Clerical Vestments

I was licensed as a local pastor at the annual conference's Service for Licensing, Ordination, and Retirement last night. I didn't bring a robe. It was embarrassing because I didn't know that I was supposed to be robed, so I had to borrow one.

Maybe I should have taken the approach of these four men, who broke into a Methodist church in Salem, Oregon and stole the clerical vestments.

You just need to make sure your bath robe is properly accessorized. Like traditional vestments, but more absorbent!

You had to be robed to be licensed?

We don't make a huge deal of licensees in Oklahoma. In fact, licensing school takes place in August.

I just have to hope the 4 guys swiping the vestments got an alb or two. Those heavy black cassocks would be torture, even in Oregon.

Yup, I had to find a robe. Apparently everyone else already knew to bring a robe, so I was the only moron. Presumably if I had ever been to an AC before, I would know....

The licensing liturgy was really quick, but we had to wait with the commissioned and ordinands. There was only one diaconal ordinand, so she got her very own service. It was cool.

The robes were not. I melted in my robe and had to take my suit to the dry cleaners this morning. Next time, I'm going follow Dale Tedder's practice and go au naturel beneath the robe. That'll be far more bearable in the Florida summer.

Congratulations John. However, this was more information than I really needed to know:)

Congrats John! We don't have local pastors robe in NCNY either - huh. It is a very fast part of regular session when LPs are recognized.

Thanks! The liturgy was very fast for us, too.

Our local pastors don't wear a robe for licensing - ours is like Todd's; licensing school takes place in July and the licensing is done quietly (and in the clergy session we vote on them en masse). In fact, I can't even find local pastors in the schedule at all...

I have to be robed to be accepted as an elder in full connection, however.
