Pacifist or not, I just LOVE hearin' Sheriff Rooster telling criminal Ned Pepper, "I mean to take you back to jail. You can go back sitting on your horse, or sprawled over it, dead (or words to that effect). What do you say?"
And Pepper saying, "I call that mighty bold talk for a one eyed fat man," and Rooster responding by making a little face and then responding, "Fill your hands, you sunuvabitch!"
And then Rooster grips the reins in his teeth and holds a rifle in each hand and charges on his horse straight into the six or so bad guys, guns a-blazing.
Gratuitous violence can make for good fiction.
Rio Lobo, Stagecoach and the Shootist are all enjoyable, but Green Berets is just an exercise in pain to watch.

my favorite wasn't on there "North to Alaska" it's not a serious movie but my favorite.
I chose The man who shot Liberty Valance, but that is really a Jimmy Stewart movie.
I never got the appeal of Liberty Valance. I voted for Rio Lobo.
