Video Game Cocktail Recipes

The Drunken Moogle is a geek humor blog that regularly features cocktail recipes inspired by video games. Pictured above is the "Barrel of Bananas", which is taken from Donkey Kong. Here's the recipe:
3/4 shot of 99 Bananas
3/4 shot of Coconut Rum
about 1/2 a highball glass of Root Beer
about 1/2 a highball glass of Fuze - Banana Colada

Directions: Throw some ice into a nice, large highball glass. Pour in the 3/4 shots of 99 Bananas and coconut rum. Then, simultaneously pour in the Banana Colada Fuze and your favorite root beer evenly until it reaches the top of the glass. Stir and enjoy.

Permit me to share with you one of my better recipes:

1 leg of Ewok, bone in (about 10 to 12 pounds)
1/4 cup fresh lime juice
8 cloves garlic, minced
3 tablespoons chopped rosemary
2 teaspoons ground black pepper

2 cups diced onions
1/4 cup chopped parsley
1/4 cup chives
2 cups chicken stock
2 cups white wine

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Rub lime juice, garlic, rosemary, and pepper over the roast. Mix onion, parsley, chives, stock, and wine, and marinate roast in this mixture for six hours. Cook for three hours or until at least 160 degrees at the center.

Recipe: Spotted Dick

Spotted dick is an English dessert which consists of raisins and other sweetened filling material wrapped around a roll of dough and then steamed.

Ingredients:
6 oz raisins
3 oz brown sugar
1 tablespoon of lemon juice
8 oz flour
4 oz vegetable shortening
2 oz milk

Mix the raisins, sugar, and lemon juice together and set aside. Then blend the flour, milk, and shortening into a ball of dough. Smooth it out into a square on a lightly floured surface. Spread the filling on the dough and roll from one end.

Wrap the roll in a cloth, tie and both ends, and steam for two hours.

It's quite tasty.

Homemade Danishes

3/4 cup warm water
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/4 oz. dry active yeast
1/4 cup sugar
4 cups flour
1 egg yolk
2 sticks of butter

Combine water, milk, vanilla, and yeast. Beat with a mixer for three minutes. Sift flour and sugar, then add egg yolk. Melt both sticks of butter. Next, mix all of your components vigorously and allow to rise for half an hour. Roll your dough into cords and create spirals. Place these in your baking pans and allow to rise for half an hour.

Press indentations into the center of the spirals. Bake at 400 degrees until brown. Fill with your mother's delicious homemade strawberry jam.

Serves 2.

I think that the next time I make these, I'll double the sugar.

Question of the Day

Crawfish season is upon us, so it's time to sidle down to a boil and pick up a bag of spicy cajun crawdads. I prefer to pick up a couple pounds, a newspaper to spread them on, and a gallon of sweet milk to douse the fire in my mouth from time to time.

How do you like your crawfish?

Recipe Blogging: Pickled Eggs

I've decided to make pickled eggs. I figure that if they're good enough for Moe's Tavern, then they're good enough for me. I've never pickled anything, but it looks like it's fairly simple. This was the recipe that I used:

12 hard-boiled eggs
2 pints of vinegar
½ tsp of ginger
½ tsp of black pepper
½ tsp of allspice

Place the shelled eggs in a jar. Boil the other ingredients and let simmer for ten minutes. Pour it into the jar and let it sit for a month.

Here's a picture of the finished product:

I guess that I'll find out in a month or so how well it turned out.

Have you ever pickled any foods?
