Steve Heyduck is irritated about the secretive politicking going on in preparation for General Conference:Is there anything wrong with that? Well, yes there is. Officially, as we are reminded by our bishop, clergy do not and are not to politic. We are not supposed to “run” for GC delegate.
Does it happen? Of course! Am I merely expressing sour grapes over not being involved? I don’t think so. I am not opposed to deals being made and people politicking for themselves or others. I am opposed to this all happening while we say it doesn’t and isn’t supposed to.
If you could change anything about the way that General Conference operates, what would it be?

I would have to say that we should just accept the politicking and allow it to proceed much like the political campaigns for president.
When you have groups outside the church lobbying for issues (ie http://www.generalconference2008.org/) we might as well get it in the open and argue it out without pretense as Steve suggested.
about the way GC operates? What if we only voted on things (only changed the Discipline) at every OTHER GC (that is, every 8 years!). During the non-voting quadrinniums we would simply get together, pray, worship, and talk. I know everyone may think that a great waste of money, but I suspect it could radically alter the GC's when we do vote...
